Hello IEC Nation! I wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who attended SPARK and made it successful. I am confident that we are on the right path to finish the year out strong.
I wanted to congratulate all the hard work everyone has been doing. We have seen accomplishments in our new programs in Limited Energy, our membership has grown, we see expansion in our industry partnerships, and our events continue to grow. It is an absolute pleasure to work with our staff, our board, and the foundation to power us forward.
Registration for IEC Business Summit 2024 is now open! Join us in Charlotte, NC, January 28 – 31, 2024. I hear the weather is great in January! Business Summit is where the electrical workforce meets the industry experts. This year we will have great education sessions mixed with ample opportunities to network.
Our Workforce Development Institute is tackling issues in the industry. Through our Emerging Leaders, we have focused on experiences apprentice retention and school culture. IEC is working to create relationships with other trade associations to build a pipeline in the construction industry for high school students.
It has been a pleasure being the 2023 National President! As I said before I have had the opportunity to work with wonderful people. Troy Corrigan said it best “I wish everyone could be president, to experience the wonderful graduations IEC presents at the school year end. The look in the graduates’ eyes are a rich reward.”
It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, Cecil Leedy 2023 IEC National President

IEC Joins Business Community in Opposition to Overtime Proposal
IEC recently signed a letter to Congress expressing its opposition to the most recent proposal by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to increase the overtime threshold. The letter objects to DOL’s attempts to change the current threshold, which was only recently increased to $35,568 annually in 2019, to as high as $60,000, by the time the rule would likely go final next year. Among the reasons to oppose the proposal aside from the drastic increase are efforts by DOL to include automatic updates to the threshold that are likely unlawful and violate the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Slips, Trips, & Falls
In November, our attention is focused on safety as we tackle the issue of Slips, Trips, & Falls. These accidents happen when we lose our footing, trip over objects, or come down suddenly. Causes range from spills, ice, and rain to loose mats, rugs, and stepladders. Poor lighting and clutter can also lead to painful injuries like sprains, strains, and more. To learn more about preventing these accidents and staying safe, visit our website.
Join the IEC National committee and play a crucial role in addressing the pressing challenges facing the electrical industry today. With workforce issues at an all-time high and industry convergence reshaping our field, this is the time to invest in our industry’s future. Whether nominating yourself or a colleague, your involvement is essential in fulfilling our mission of connecting people, ideas, and information in the industry.
Thank you to everyone who came to Dallas, TX and made SPARK come to life! We hope you had an amazing time, and if you’d like to relive the moments, be sure to check out the event photos HERE.
