I hope this newsletter finds you all well. It’s hard to believe we are almost through July! I wanted to provide you with a brief update on what’s been going on in the IEC and share some exciting developments.
We have several exciting things happening over the next few months. We have started a series of both virtual and in-person meet & greets to
discuss the benefits of starting several new chapters and have had many wonderful interactions with contractors interested in joining our community. I am also very excited about our annual Codes & Standards- Safety Summit in August. This meeting is a great opportunity to learn more about National Electrical Code and how to implement effective safety culture in your organization.
Lastly, the countdown is on for SPARK! We are less than 80 days out from our biggest event of the year. I highly encourage you to share this event with your chapter and community. I want to see every one of you in Dallas this October and want to meet the members that make our chapter network so great. This event is going to be the best yet, and I’m looking forward to seeing IEC at the competitions, parties, and awards celebrations!
Thank you for your unwavering commitment and for being a part of this incredible organization. All of your hard work and dedication continue to inspire me. #WeAreIEC

Connect with Members of Congress at Home!
Whether or not you were able to attend last month’s Policy Conference, the August recess provides another chance to engage with members of Congress when they return home to their districts where they will make themselves available to meet with their constituents.
This is a prime opportunity to schedule a time for your elected officials to visit your chapter or job site. When at home, senators and representatives have more time to learn about the merit shop electrical contracting industry and its workforce challenges, as well as see your apprenticeship program first-hand.
Even if you or your members of Congress are unavailable to connect in August, now is the time to begin the conversation to schedule a time that works for both.
If you have any questions or would like help with this effort, contact Jason Todd at jtodd@ieci.org.

Safe + Sound Week 2023: August 7-13
Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America’s workers safe. Successful safety and health programs can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving sustainability and the bottom line. Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help IEC members get their program started, energize an existing one, or provide a chance to recognize safety successes. Visit the IEC Safety page for more information.
Speak Up for Safety Challenge
Safety reports contain the information you need to improve workplace safety and health. Use worker participation in this Speak Up for Safety Challenge to review your safety reports with a team. You will learn from each other, discover safety and health opportunities, and earn your challenge coin.
Share the results in your workplace and on social media to share how you encourage workers to #SpeakUpForSafety to be #SafeAndSoundAtWork.
OSHA Announces Rule for Employees in High-Hazard Industries
The U.S. Department of Labor announced July 17, 2023 a final rule that will require certain employers in designated high-hazard industries to electronically submit injury and illness information – that they are already required to keep – to the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The final rule takes effect on January 1, 2024. Read more HERE.
OSHA Announces Proposed Rule to Clarify PPE Standard
The current standard does not state clearly that PPE must fit each affected employee properly, which the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s general industry and maritime standards do. The proposed change would clarify that PPE must fit each employee properly to protect them from occupational hazards. Read more HERE.
