February 2024
I hope this message finds you well and filled with optimism for the opportunities that lie ahead. As we embark on this journey together in 2024, I am delighted to share some uplifting updates and reflections with you.
The recent Business Summit was a resounding success! The overwhelming positive feedback, energy, and spirit of unity truly laid the groundwork for our collective endeavors moving forward. Specifically, we left the meeting aligned around four key organizational priorities. I believe the Business Summit set the tone for the year ahead, and we sincerely hope to see you there next January in San Antonio.
Building on our shared priorities, the Executive Committee has also decided to donate and amplify our advocacy efforts. We intend to demonstrate our commitment to the causes we champion and encourage you to join us.
A friendly reminder to mark your calendars for June 10-12, 2024, as we gather once again to shape the future of our association on Capitol Hill with the Policy Conference. Your presence and active participation are invaluable as we chart our course forward.
As we prepare for the conference, it’s imperative that every merit shop contractor stands together to advocate for the continuity of our apprenticeship program by going against the Department of Labor’s proposed Apprenticeship rule. IEC Greater Texas Regional Director Jerry Kent explained it the best: “if we don’t fast forward on this, and talk to our various legislators, we probably won’t be here in 3 years talking about this.”
Let’s not forget the importance of the SPARK call for content, which plays a vital role in shaping our biggest event. Topics such as prefabrication and emerging technologies remain at the forefront and presentations are due by March 22, 2024. I ask that you please share the news with your network.
To the 4th-year apprentices, I eagerly await celebrating with you on graduation day. Your hard work and dedication are commendable, and I thank you for your grit and commitment to the program. See you soon!
As we anticipate the opportunities and challenges that 2024 will bring, I want to reaffirm my commitment to each of you. I am not here for the recognition; I am here for you and to pay it forward. I am committed to making changes that bring fresh perspectives to the table and hope that you embrace the changes made.
Let’s continue to move forward with hope and unity, embracing the exciting possibilities that 2024 holds for us.

Heavy Equipment Safety
Learn how to prevent accidents such as being struck by equipment, rollovers, and crushing hazards by implementing measures like proper training, equipment inspection, and establishing limited access zones. Operators should always use seat belts, conduct daily inspections, and follow manufacturer’s safety guidelines to protect themselves and others. By adhering to these protocols, we can ensure a safer work environment for everyone involved in construction operations.

Emerging Leaders Build Tools You Can Use

Business owners in the electrical trade worry about attracting and retaining great employees to handle all the work available to them now and in the future.

That’s why the 10 hardworking and industrious members of the IEC 2023 Emerging Leaders cohort dug deep into organizational culture. They found it’s more than a buzzword – it’s real. Then they developed tools to offer to IEC members to assess and correct situations that may be holding their companies back.
