Committee Approves IEC-Backed Appropriations Riders

Under the leadership of IEC PAC-supported Congressman Robert Aderhold (R-AL), the House Committee on Appropriations recently approved riders in its FY25 Labor Health and Human Services bill that would prevent funds from being used to implement the Apprenticeship, Walkaround, Independent Contractor, Overtime and Union Electronic Voting rules. IEC Rising Star Holds OSHA Hearing

The House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, led 2024 IEC Rising Star Congressman Kevin Kiley (R-CA), held a hearing today titled, “Safeguarding Workers and Employers from OSHA Overreach and Skewed Priorities.” The hearing focused on how OSHA has exceeded its authority with the issuance of the union-friendly Walkaround Rule and is seeking to further burden small businesses with the recently proposed Heat Standard.

Teamsters President Delivers Keynote at RNC

Last week, Sean O’Brien, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, spoke at the Republican National Convention. In response, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace issued a statement questioning this decision given that, under his leadership, “the Teamsters spent millions of dollars supporting Democratic candidates and an anti-business, anti-worker agenda.” It’s unclear how this may impact labor policy under a second Trump administration, but the move underscores the need for IEC to have a strong PAC to support candidates for office that understand merit shop and small business issues to help counter harmful policies, regardless of the administration.
